MEMBER OF THE WEEK ⭐️

This week’s GG Member of the Week is one of our GG pacers, Dan! Here’s a bit more about Dan and his running journey:

How did you get into running?
I grew up playing soccer, and to be honest, I dreaded the running and conditioning that came with it. But after chasing a collegiate career and tearing my right ACL four times, I had to face the reality that my body wasn’t built for the constant cutting and sprinting.

Along the way, I found rowing, where running became a go-to for cross-training and conditioning. Only in the past couple of years have I really embraced running for what it is—completing my first half marathon this year and now gearing up for my first full marathon next year. It’s been a long, surprising road, but one I’ve come to really appreciate.

What do you love about GG?
I truly just stumbled into GG, but from the first run, it felt great. Everyone was welcoming, friendly, and just genuinely happy to be there. Once I understood the mission, I was all in. Starting your week in a space of movement, community, and positivity (and quotes for the 4 mile group 😉)? Absolutely. GG has become a staple of my routine—and it’s given me more than just miles.

What advice would you give to someone new to running?
In rowing, we’re taught to “stay in the boat” or “stay internal”—which means row your own race, but lean on your teammates when you need it. Running is the same. It’s easy to get caught up comparing paces, results, gear… but it’s so much more rewarding when you run your race, on your terms.

Surround yourself with uplifting people, and take the time to gradually build your own rhythm with the sport. You don’t need to be fast or flashy—just consistent and kind to yourself. That’s how you fall in love with running.
